Frequently Asked Questions

YesIndian passport holders need a valid visa, specifically a Schengen visa, to travel to Switzerland for short stays like tourism, business, family visits, or other approved activities for up to 90 days within 180 days. Switzerland does not offer visa-on-arrival or visa-free for Indian citizens.

Yes, Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area; hence, with a Switzerland visa, you can travel freely to other Schengen Countries without needing additional visas.

Note: The Schengen Area comprises the following 29 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Make sure your first point of entry is Switzerland or that Switzerland is your main destination, as this will align with the requirements of the Swiss embassy where you are applying for the visa.

Here are the Switzerland tourist visa requirements for Indians:

Visa application form: A completed and signed Switzerland visa application form.

Passport photo: One recent passport-sized photograph that meets the Switzerland visa photo requirements (e.g., white background, no older than 6 months) must be attached to the application form.

With Atlys, you cannot only upload your passport-size photo but also click the picture of yours using your smartphone or desktop camera. Atlys automatically adjusts the photo to meet the country’s requirements without hassle.

Minors applying for a Switzerland visa must provide the following additional documents:

  • Birth certificate or copy of the family book;

  • Copies of the passports of both parents or legal guardians;

  • Travel authorisation signed by the holder(s) of parental authority, along with a copy of his/her/their identity document (if the minor is not travelling with his/her parents or guardian);

Tip: Ensure that all documents are notarised and that you have originals and copies available at the visa appointment.

Yes, you can apply for a Schengen visa without a confirmed flight booking. However, you will need to provide a flight itinerary or reservation as proof of your intended travel dates.

Note: Atlys provides verifiable flight reservations for free, allowing you to demonstrate your travel plans without any financial commitment.

Also many visa agencies and airlines offer services that offer refundable or reservable ticket options, which allows you to make changes or cancel the booking.

Here’s how you can apply for a Swiss tourist visa from India:

Gather Your Documents: Start by collecting all the required documents, such as your valid passport, the last three months’ bank statements, payslips, income tax returns, and any other documents listed in the requirements.

Log in to Atlys: Visit the Atlys website or open the mobile app. Select Switzerland as your destination.

Book Your Appointment: Fill in your details, upload the necessary documents, and pay the appointment fee. Once you’re done, you’ll receive a confirmation for your visa appointment.

Submit Your Documents: Go to the visa application centre on your scheduled date. Atlys will arrange for your documents to be submitted in the correct order. You’ll also complete the required biometrics (fingerprints and facial scans) during your visit.

Pay the Atlys & Service Fee: Pay the Atlys Fee and wait for the processing, including travel insurance and courier fees, to be completed.

Receive Your Visa: Once approved, your passport with a Switzerland tourist visa stamp will be delivered directly to your home.

Yes, you will need to submit your passport for Switzerland visa processing. The passport is required for identity verification, for checking your travel history, and for affixing the visa sticker if approved.

Once a decision on your visa application has been made, you can collect the passport from the visa application centre or get it delivered to your doorstep if you opt for a courier service.

No, a Switzerland tourist visa does not permit you to work or study in Switzerland or the Schengen Area. This visa is strictly for temporary tourism visits. If you wish to work or study, you will need to apply for the appropriate visa type (e.g., work visa, student visa).

If you lose your passport with a Switzerland visa while travelling, you should immediately report the loss to the local police and obtain a police report. You will then need to visit the nearest Indian embassy or consulate to apply for an emergency passport. You can also inquire about the possibility of reissuing the visa.

Tip: Keep photocopies of your passport, visa, and other important documents in a secure place, separate from the originals, to facilitate the replacement process.

If your travel dates have changed, you can still use the Switzerland Schengen visa as long as the new travel dates fall within the visa’s validity period. However, if your new travel dates are outside the visa’s validity, you will need to apply for a new visa.

After submitting your application, you can check your visa application using Dubai (UAE) visa tracking tool.

Sometimes, visa applications can get stuck in processing, causing delays beyond the standard timeframe.

  • Follow up regularly: Use the visa tracking system to monitor the status of your application. If it’s delayed, contact your sponsor or the application platform for updates.

  • Check for issues: Delays can occur due to missing documents, additional checks, or errors in the application. Ensure all required documents are correctly submitted.

  • Ask the sponsor to visit GDRFA: If the delay is significant, visiting the GDRFA in person can help resolve the situation better.

As of 2023, the rejection rate for Indian citizens applying for a Swiss Schengen visa at the consulate was recorded at 11.9% as opposed to 13.2% in 2022.

The steady improvement in rejection rates highlights Switzerland’s efforts to enhance its visa approval process. This includes implementing more transparent guidelines and improving applicant support to ensure the accuracy of the applications.

Interestingly, Switzerland is the most preferred Schengen destination for Indians, followed by France and Germany. The Swiss Embassy in Delhi processed 1,89,646 visa applications from India in 2023 alone! Such popularity is also an outcome of the country consistently ranking among the top European countries for tourism. The combination of its natural beauty, cultural attractions, and strong diplomatic ties with India makes it an appealing choice for Indian tourists

Generally, the fee for a Swiss Schengen visa is non-refundable if your visa application is denied. However, if you apply through Atlys, you can receive a refund even if your application is rejected under Atlys Protect (which is free).

If your Switzerland tourist visa application is rejected, you can reapply after addressing the reasons for rejection. However, you must ensure that all documents are complete and accurate the second time to avoid added delays and expenses. If you have any doubts, consider seeking help from an authorised visa service provider to increase your chances of success.

Alternatively, you can also appeal the decision within 30 days of the rejection date. To do so, gather any missing documents or information and write a compelling appeal letter explaining why your visa should be granted.

For further details, read our complete guide on the Schengen visa reapplication and appeal process.

If you need to extend your stay in Switzerland for medical reasons, you can apply for a visa extension at the local immigration office in Switzerland. You will need to provide:

  • Medical certificate: A certificate from a Swiss medical professional explaining the medical necessity for your extended stay.

  • Proof of insurance: Evidence that your travel insurance covers the extended period.

  • Financial proof: Proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during the extended stay.

Note: You must apply for the extension before your current visa expires and ensure that all documentation is thorough and convincing.

Yes, Children require a separate visa to enter Dubai. Parents or guardians must apply on behalf of Children, providing their birth certificates, passport copies, and all the standard documents.

Here are the Dubai tourist visa eligibility requirements for children:

For Children (under the age of 18):

  • Parent photo ID is required, plus a copy of a parent’s Dubai tourist visa

  • Only machine-readable passports will be accepted for Children.

  • Include a birth certificate in English or Arabic

For Minors, you can apply for the same tourist visa type as the primary sponsor, typically the father or mother.

Details can be included in the visa application process submitted by the primary visa sponsor.

Note: A parent or guardian must accompany children under 18 who hold a Dubai tourist visa.

For children, you can apply for the same type of tourist visa as the primary sponsor, typically the parent. The Dubai tourist visa fee for children is ₹6,250 for a single entry, excluding any service fees. The visa is valid for 60 days and allows for a stay of up to 30 days in Dubai.

Note: Atlys does not charge a service fee unless your e-visa is not issued within the expected timeframe.
